Christian Clothing as an Icebreaker

Have you heard the old hymn that says, “All God’s children got a robe, all God’s children got shoes?” It’s true. We all have to get dressed to go out into the world everyday. Christian clothing is one way to be in the world, but not of it. You can make a statement for Christ without even saying a word by putting on a comfortable Christian hoodie, t-shirt, or hat.

It can be difficult striking up a conversation with someone you do not know, and yet we are the light of the world. Christian clothes provide another vehicle to be that light. Sometimes it helps to have a little icebreaker, and that can be as simple as a statement printed on your clothing. Instead of advertising your favorite baseball team or 80s television fad, why not advertise the King of Kings on your clothing? This type of investment in God’s Kingdom is two-fold. First and most important, the truth of salvation through Jesus Christ is being thrust into the marketplace of ideas. Secondly, Christian companies, families and ministries are being supported through your purchases. Now you can wear your faith not only on your sleeve, but also on your back, chest, arms and head, knowing that by doing so you are spreading the Good News about God’s grace to everyone who sees it.
